    Description

    What a rare find!
This item is a tartanware spool/thread holder, made during the Victorian Era. These were sewing boxes were used mainly in England and Scotland.
It measures approximately 2" high and is 4.5" in diameter.
The lid fits firmly and securely on the round box and it holds six antique wooden spools of thread (five vintage or antique spools with thread are included). The center has an area for the thimble (thimble is probably not original but it is included). There are six eyes into which the thread is pushed through from the inside to the outside of the box. Each eye is bone and has the thread number below it. Two of the bone from the eyes are missing and there is a crack in the round box that runs through one of the eyes. Some scratches and marks are on the lid and sides. It was truly used by a seamstress many years ago. Overall the condition of this sewing box is good for being over 100 years old.
This rare, antique, tartanware sewing and thread box will ship from my non-smoking home in the condition photographed and described. Please look carefully at the photos.
