~~ circa 1860 Ceylonese Anglo India Sewing Box ~~
    Rosewood ~ Ebony
Hello and welcome!  This is your opportunity to add an amazing piece of mid-19th century artistry to your sewing or Asian arts collection.
This particular sewing box is larger than most that I've seen for sale.
This box has 2 trays, with an open area beneath the lower tray.
The top tray is much more ornate than the lower tray.
The top tray also still has the bobbins, including antique pins and thread.
    The problems:
The inset design in the center - with elephant, flowers and leaves - is missing one piece, and several others are still in the sewing box but have come off from the lid.  I have shown a photo with the pieces in place and aside.
The fabric "handles" which allowed you to remove the trays easily have broken off.  There is sign of the lush magenta ribbon on the sides of the top tray.  There is none on the lower tray.
The box is old.  Likely 150 years old.  There is some damage to the bottom as shown in one of the photos.
The protective layer of red fabric on the bottom is worn and eaten.  I am not certain if it is original or not.
The hinges are not attached; one is there completely, the other has a broken off top to the lid.
Some of the tiny corner supports that keep the lids of each section are missing; some are in their little sections, some are just gone.
There's no key for the lock, so I don't know if it works or not.
    The good parts:
It's a flipping cool piece of functional artistry from over 150 years ago.  The shape I can only describe as fluted... it's wood, so I am not entirely certain how they did it, but oofta, it's fabulous!!
    It still has the bobbins.
    The inlay is lovely.
The colors of the wood are amazing.
Did I mention it's 150 years old, and still looks like this!  It's truly a treasure!
